Economists study the behaviour of individuals, organizations, and governments, and the implications for markets, national economies, and the global economy. Specialty areas at Western include the economics of education, crime, finance, inequality, climate, and China.

Housed in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies is a dynamic and interdisciplinary field that focuses on issues of social justice and equality. In our courses you will learn how to develop a critical perspective that takes factors such as sex, gender, sexuality, race, class and disability into account.

Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and social inequality. Sociologists investigate the structure of groups, organizations, and societies and how people interact within these contexts. Sociology looks at a wide range of issues from the intimate family to the hostile mob; from environmentalism to religious traditions; as well as race, Indigeneity, gender, sexuality, and social class.
