Andrew Barnes Memorial Award

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student entering third or fourth year of an Honors degree with an Honors Specialization or double Major in Political Science, based on academic achievement (minimum 70% average) and financial need. Candidates must also demonstrate their involvement with volunteer work at the University and/or in the community by submitting a one-page statement describing their volunteer efforts and how their efforts have benefited others.  Registrarial contents will determine financial need and a committee within the Department of Political Science will select the recipient. This award was established by the parents and grandparents of Andrew Barnes (BA, Political Science '05) through Foundation Western. Andrew is remembered by those who knew and loved him for his commitment to voluntary work on campus (particularly Foot Patrol), love of sports, academic excellence, sense of humour, and warm personality that endeared him to friends and family and earned him respect from peers and faculty.

How to apply:
  • Submit a one-page statement describing your volunteer efforts and how your efforts have benefited others to the Dean's Office, Room 9438, SSC
  • Complete an Financial Assistance Profile Application via the Student contents website.
When: Deadline is September 30
Value: 1 at $1,125 This award qualifies for the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program and recipients must meet Ontario residency requirements.
